Default Taming a Stage IV

My boss has an 06 Ultra bought used. Supposedly a dealer installed stage IV, the original owner don't remember much about it and doesn't have the orange key for the SERT. It buck and stumbles at low RPM but has a lot of power on the top end. He hates the low end. The current dealer said without the orange key he can't get into the SERT and make changes so they recommend a FP3.
I think he should find an Indy and change out the cams to something more streetable, then he can recommend a tuner that he is familiar with. What are any thoughts for anyone that went through this scenerio.

I'd start with a user friendly programmer with auto tune before I'd spend the cash on a cam swap. Pretty certain it can be tamed with the right tune.

I think if you can find the dealer that originally tuned it, they may have the tune, and reload it, but can't re tune, i always keep mine in tour pak, maybe it can be found ,back tracking

I agree but without knowing what was in the build cam and other components you are somewhat shooting in the dark on what base map to even start from. It's because of this that I would get the FP3 and send it off to be tuned before spending any cash on going into the cam chest. I would run a compression test on it to see where the current CCP is.

The stumbling definitely points to the tune but the lack of low end could very well be a screwed up build with the wrong cam. Without pulling it apart it's a crap shoot.

This was a dealer installed Stage IV. Any dealer should be able to run the VIN and tell you what was used. I would bet money it's a 259.

He has had it to the dealer 3 times and they said without the orange key or whatever, they can't retune it for some reason.

But they should be able to tell him what cam is in it.

The dealer thought it was the O2 sensor port, not close enough to the head, they welded new bungs in and didn't fix it and they threw their hands in the air and said if you can get the orange key, we can do something, then never pulled the top cover to check the cams. Records from original Owner are lost.

so the conseses looks like try the FP3 .. let it auto tune and see what happens, then if still not happy.. put in milder set of cams and try that. or buy a new bike and forget about the headache.

Are you 100% on that. I know our dealers here don't have databases that cross into the other dealers. If this was work done under the guise that the moco was picking up the warranty than maybe but up until recently an HD dealer, at least the ones I am privy to would install anything you wanted and a lot of them recommended going with non-HD cams. Not saying your wrong at all. It's just a question.

Thinking that autotune is going to fix the problem is wishful thinking. My experience with the FP3 is unless your base tune is awful close, autotune is worthless. I'm pretty sure your experience with any auto tuner using the narrow band O2 sensors will be the same.
