Default GPS Headlight Acc Lead Installation Issue

Successfully connected my Road Tech 660 to the accessory leads off of the headlight. I just wanted to confirm these leads are switched power only. My gps came on/ off when keyed on and off but for some reason after I turned the bike off the GPS went off then restarted again on its own. I'm assuming it's just a glitch in the GPS and it's running off its own battery power and not the bike.

I believe you are correct in your assessment that when powering off the switched power, the turns off then back on again, presumably running on its internal battery - my Garmin gps does that exact same thing in my pickup.

If you have a meter you can check that for sure. Or even a test light would work

I have had a zumo and a Roadtech on 3 bikes I think, maybe 4, IDK. I have always ran power straight to the battery.

My Zumo 660 does not do that.

A few Questions:
How old is it?
When was the last time it was updated?
Is the internal battery charged?
How is it hooked up to the bike’s power?

Mine is connected to the bike through the Zumo cradle (using the Fairing Mount.)
It is connected to the orange/white from the headlight circuit [29B] (which is unused on domestic bikes.)

With the Zumo mounted in the cradle, everything off, when I start the bike the Zumo comes on.
Once the GPS has finished booting, if I shut the bike down I get a window that pops up on the GPS screen warning that it will shut off in 30 seconds, then counts down until it shuts off. (It does give you the option to leave it on internal battery power.)
If I do nothing the Zumo will shut down and remain off.

When the bike is restarted the route I had loaded in it is still loaded (as long as there is enough internal battery power.)

Maybe you want to apply updates and/or call Garmin?

I think the power to that runs through the ignition switch. Your talking the fender tip light?

Yes I connected to the orange/white (positive) and Black (negative) leads off the headlight. Maybe I didn’t let it boot up all the way before shutting the bike off. I was only testing it. I updated the software a few months ago. I don’t think I’m going to worry about it.

As a clarification and to be precise, no.
Although they both use an orange/white wire and connect to the same circuit.

The wire in question is for the HDI Position Lamp required in some countries, but not in the U.S.

This is where HD tells you to connect the Zumo.
Many CVO Ultras that came with the Zumo have an orange/white wire directly run to the fuse block instead.
