I have the DK deluxe on my 14 sg. only time I notice the shortened turning radius is when I'm pulling it out of my garage and I need to full lock turn. but even then i can still don't notice much difference. I did move the fairing up a short bit to help clear the lines but no damages reported since last summer of riding. I did 12k last summer in Michigan. undid notice less beard buggering if I could grow one and more air across the legs and shins after the lift. cleaning is easier also. DK was looking into a 1 inch lift instead of the 1.5 inch lifts.

I wanted to do it to my SG but my bars are so close to the tank at full lock there isn’t any way i could raise the tank.

I put the DK deluxe kit on my 10 ROADGLIDE
looks good, rocker tops easier to cleaner, seems cooler however oil temp is same

Checked and looks like I have plenty of clearance on 2011 FLHR, and gas gauges (yes, two: add'l one with speedo/tach combo) have never been accurate anyway--they read differently and never register full...

I seem to recall a blog DK had on their web site discussing the various methods of redirecting airflow, and the effects on engine cooling and rider heat. It was interesting, but I couldn't find it yesterday when I looked.

I did this suggestion from DK:

1. Remove the left side thigh protector. This will help the air flow very fast past the rear cylinder and out the left side...this is good for the engine, and will reduce the amount of felt hot air on the right side.

With the right side shield still in place, it acts like an air scoop pulling air into the space behind the cylinder...but with the left side removed, that air can now exit easily. With both installed, they are essentially two scoops that push air from both sides to collide and swirl, with no real good place for the air to exit.

It is not symmetrical looking, BUT, you can only see one side at a time, so it is unlikely most will notice you have a thigh protector on one side and not the other.

Doing this will cool the engine overall, so while riding & when coming to a stop you have a cooler engine than you would otherwise. However, if you are at a stop long, or in continuous stop & go, you will feel more heat on the left than the right.

I used the DK front and rear tank kit (Deluxe), just 1.5 inch I think. Also the little deflectors that mount in front of the tank (out of sight mostly) and I do believe it lets the motor stay cooler but also I feel even less buffeting than before. Plus as others have said, I just think it looks better, showing more of the top of the motor.

Or you can take both of them off and not over-think it.
