On mine the CB and AM/FM antenna is factory mounted in the UltraClassic tour pack / travel trunk that I special ordered and installed on the back.

That is a good question, that I still am asking myself, why did I get a RK when I really should have bought a UltraClassic!

I'm familiar with Dead Center's fairing and just about every other one on the market. Most all appear to be good. You just have to figure out which features are best for you. If anything, I'm guilty of over analyzing this thing. It's time to quit looking and JUST DO IT. J & P has a 10% off sale (plus an aditional 5% for Gold Card members) this weekend. No Ultra for me. I still love running the King with solo seat, no windshield, etc. Just want the full dresser (tour pak, fairing with tunes, leather engine guard covers) when I want it.

How are you guys embedding the larger pics in your posts? I'm not doing something right.

Well.....

I just ordered the fairing from Dead Center Cycles today. I'll keep you updated once it arrives and let you know my thoughts, views and feeling (for what it's worth).

I will say that Willem was a pleasure to talk with (about 30 minute call) and was willing to share his experiences and tests which he has done in regards to sound systems, speakers, etc.

Hopefully I'll see it by mid-week next week.

Brian,

Glad to hear that, I'll be doing the same and I'm already thinking of a paint scheme and have my painter lined up too.

Just an FYI -

The Dead Center Cycle fairing arrived yesterday and is great quality. Willem is a pleasure to deal with and helped out a lot in regards to the shipping (Fedex mistake).

I would imagine this is true of all of them but it will definitely be getting painted before riding with it installed. The black gelcoat just doesn't cut it. If I didn't have to conduct systems training at the office this weekend I'd be painting it. But plans can not be changed - guess I'll be painting it next week in the evenings.

The locking mechanism work great and the whole thing drops in place as easy, if not easier, than installing the stock windshield. I ordered it with the 7" clear windshield and it sits about 1.5" lower than the stock Road King windshield height. It uses standard design HD windshields so swapping them out is a 2 minute job. Loosen 3 bolts, slide one out, slide a new one in, tighten the bolts. I plan on getting both a taller clear windshield and either a lower (maybe 5") or 7" smoked windshield. The marine grade cover for the stereo is well placed and retractable. In fact it is a "soft" mechanism meaning when you press the button to unlatch it, it slowly rises and retracts by itself. The inner and outer shells separate quite easily by removing 5 bolts - the 3 for the windshield and two at the lower portion of the fairing. Also along the lower portion are pre-inserted captured nuts to allow for the installation of HD style wind deflectors. Inside the upper portion of the faring along the inside edge where the windshield goes, there is a peice of foam weather stripping that helps to seal the two fairing halves and the windshield to prevent water from entering the inside of the fairing from the top. There is also a clamshell-type rubber seal that is on each outer edge of the inner shell which makes contact to the inner part of the outer shell when the two halves are bolted together. This would prevent water from entering the fairing from the outer edges. Finally, there is an ABS plastic insert at the yoke section of the fairing (where it stradles the headlight) that seals off raod splash from entering the inside of the fairing from underneath.

In regards to the stereo I went with the Sony CDX-R5515 and a set of Infinity Marine 602M speakers. The speakers are white and I had planned on painting them but after receving them they would be a pain to paint without getting overspray on the speaker cones (non removable grilles). Also the plastic has a slick feel to it. A test spot of paint scratched right off. So, I ordered a pair of Pyle PLE6.2 6.5" speakers. They are not marine speakers but the components (cone, surround, tweeter) are made from the same materials as the Infinity's so hopefully I won't have a problem. I never could find a pic that showed the speaker grilles but they are removable so I can paint those with no problems. I just hope they have a standard design to them and not some funky shape like some that I've seen.

I couldn't hold off....I temporarily setup the stereo and speakers to hear what it sounded like and I was amazed. I was doing all this in the garage with the fairing sitting on a stand. The bike was in there also. I played an MP3 disc and messed around with the settings and volume and decided to see how it was with the bike. Fired up the bike, V&H exhaust reverberating in the garage and the stereo just kept cranking away. No issues at all with the volume even as I throttled up the bike. Figure I should be fine out on the road.

So, if the new Pyle speakers sound this good I'll be doing ok. If not, I will find a way to paint those Infinity speakers. They just sound way too good.

Hey Brian.....

Once you've had the chance to ride a bit. Give us an update on the difference in ride over the windshield. I'm really interested in hearing about the wind noise and buffeting normally associated with speeds over 45 with a windshield.

Thanks!
