Probably need a combo of both seat & shocks... but in the end it would be money well spent for a bike with a great ride and that he's able to flat foot....

A lot of people try to get suspension/seats to work, on the cheap.... they usually end up spending more $$$ in the long run, to get something they like....

Buy once, cry once....

I would also check into local seat makers/modifiers. There is a guy here (bitchnstichin) who will modify your stock seat. I had a seat modified and it made a world of difference. You might be able to take some height out of the seat. My guy does it for $150. The best part is that he refits it while you are there, so you can check it after each modification and let him know if it is working or not.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I am going with a seat modifier first, I have my seat scheduled with MCC for a 1.5" lower, I might switch it to just an inch. I have several friends I ride with that all have the lowering blocks in back. I did purchase a set just to try them out, if they change my ride quality too much then I will I get rid of them. If these fail I will try a better set of lowering shocks such as the Ohlins, the drag specialties that I tried were just awful.

you dont state how tall you are but I can tell you that without lowering blocks the hand adjustable premium shocks were the WORST riding shocks I have ever had on a motorcycle ( been street riding since 1980 ) BUT I don't blame the shocks as I believe they were designed for 200+ lb riders and I say this because every time I hear someone say they love them they are 6' tall and weigh over 200lbs..

with that said

im 5'5" with 29.5" inseam and weigh around 160lbs and I went with a JNR design air ride it is an extremely comfortable ride .. I lower for parking lot and slow speed maneuvering and air it back up to a comfortable height for open road riding... complete kit with a grip switch $474 and to date STILL the best money I have spent on my bike..

seat wise I have recently added a CVO set up ( Xmas Present ) , it was done because the stock seat just wasn't cutting it and I was looking for something more comfortable for longer rides for both myself and my wife.

once installed I was surprised at how much lower it was over the stock seat and at $580 shipped including the seat nuts from horny toad was cheaper or comparable in price to a lot of the aftermarket seats available..

MCC lowered my seat 1.5", I sprung for memory foam and it is better than factory could ever be and much less than aftermarket. Been 4.5 years no regrets.

I am 5'7, inseam im not sure honestly never measured for pants I generally get a 30L. I weigh around 175lbs. Believe it or not the drag specialties shocks I had were way worse than the stock ones, it was a major improvement. Tamarack Machine Works makes a good lowering block but I am concerned about ride quality. Once I try them on and see how it works I will let everyone know. I have considered air ride but my concern was lowering it and raising so much if it would cause extra wear and tear or if they are designed that way. Im not exactly sure how they work to be honest. The switch just controls 2 different riding positions or does it raise or lower to whatever you want? at 474 dollars I am kind of pissed I spent 390 on these extremely horrible shocks that I cant even return or use.

I can't tell you if this will lower the bike enough for you. But I can tell you a set of ohlins shocks and springs is the best money I have spent, the ride is unbelievable smooth. You can adjust them for the load also. I highly recommend them.

Well after reading the forums and doing some research there are a lot of praises for the JNR air ride, I am highly considering these when I get the money. I am still trying to work with the dealership at this point. I really feel they just saw the money rolling and would of did anything to get an extra dime out of me.

unfortunately salesmen will tell you ANYTHING to make a sale..

on those lowering blocks make sure the hand adjustable shocks don't make contact to the back of your saddlebags as this is the main problem I heard with everyone using them..

with the air ride you can raise and lower to where ever you are comfortable, took me a few hundred miles to figure out exactly where I like mine... they do sell a ride repeater and you can also add an air gauge but I don't have either and don't feel its necessary once you get it figured out..

the JNR air ride install is straight forward and about 2 hours start to finish if you know your way around hand tools as they pre-make their harness.. I did a photo extensive write up on my site on how I DID the install and wiring..
