RE: shifter fell off going down the road!!! (Simple Fix)
I just lost my whole shifter assy on the way home from a trip. I sent my buddy back 25 miles to the dealer we had just past. They even honored the warranty without seeing the bike or the missing part. Got lucky that it happened by a good dealer. \\;
RE: shifter fell off going down the road!!! (Simple Fix)
Well, I jinxed myself...just a day after posting that mine was loose on a new 2008 SG and my 1999 RK had same problem but never fell off. Today going down a country road with the wife, I felt something touch my boot. After looking down, the heel shifter had fallen off. Spent twenty minutes looking for it on the side of the road. Found it finally, on the opposite side with the bolt securely fastened to it. Time for the dealer to fix it now. I can't see how to torque it anymore than I had. Still gonna try blue loctite first, however......

 \\; Poor design if you ask me......and the way I see some guys
STOMP on their shift levers amazes me.
 \\; I have had my 'toe' shifter (the billet one) strip out...
and Weds this week, I had the right side (connected to the shift bar) come
off. \\; Ifigured the second time that the sinch bolt had worn and allowed it to slip
past the groove in the shaft. \\; Still...both time left me with no shift capability.
 \\; \\; \\;I have a 2004 Ultra w/20000K on it.
RE: shifter fell off going down the road!!! (Simple Fix)
On my bike, the splines on the shifter shaft had worn out. Even with a new shaft I didn't trust the shifter to stay on, so I got a longer bolt and used a couple of lock washers. It can't loosen now.

LOL I wasn't gonna tell the story didn't think worth telling, but it's similar to this one, last Sunday I went to the rock store, and right before I get to the last turn before the store, tried to down shift, and WTH?? the peg was gone, I had the stock ugly round peg, luckily I had the heel shifter peg still there so I took that one off and put it at the toe, well this week I went to glendale harley and got me the streamline shifter peg which mathes mu beard and brake pedal, I also bought the chrom cap that cover the axle when you remove the toe lever, and you guees it I cacelled tthe toe shifter, never ever used it anyway, and guess what I carry that extra stock peg in my bag now, lesson learned ya never know
