When out on the highway, I wear a full face on my head and have a half helmet under a small cargo net ($5.00 at walmart). Then wear the half helmet if just running around where ever I'm at.

i use the straps on the helmet and run em thru the handle on the barrel bag i have on the luggage rack when not in use...kinda looks like jed clampet but its out of the way

I bought a Helmet Hog at Laughlin this year. It has bungee two cordes with spandex like material between the two cords. It also keeps it a little cooler than the sun beating down on it.

Fortunately I've stick mine in the tourpac but that being said. I'd go with the bungy net deal. I've seen a helmet fall off the bike before and its ugly. You want it either boxed or secure under a net. Flopping around or plan old strapped down just don't cut it.
