When i took the timing cover off I noticed it just a cover over a empty space with no access to anything because its sealed. Makes no sense to me, should just be a one piece cover. Jeff
It's hollow because the earlier bikes had cam sensors in there. Rather than change the entire design, they just closed off the holes for the cam sensors in later model covers. Allows them to sell P&A decorative covers for all years.
The holes are not tapped from the factory - the screws are self tapping. When they break off, it really sucks.
Ok i plan on drilling out the broken screws and trying to re-tap it. Does anyone know what the size is? I have the box but it only shows the part number. My parts book and service book does not say either. thanks Jeff

Just FYI, my 2012 Touring Parts Catalog (#99456-12), has a hardware list in the back. It gives the HD hardware part # and then the size.
The timing cover parts are listed on page 16/17. Per that diagram, the'12 touring OEM screws are part #68042-99
Per the hardware list, part # 68042-99 is a #8-32 x 3/8 torx screw.
I should mention... I know the OEM screws for your model (CVO Flhtcuse7) are #68120-00. However your cam cover is the same part # as the other touring bikes (#25369-01B) and should then take the same size screws... your screws have a different part # because they are probably gold plated or something..
You should be able to double check my work in your parts catalog.
Good luck with the fix...

If you can't get it figured out, should be easy enough to go to your fasteners stash and thread on a screw. Or use your dies...not a biggie.
