Default 2003 RKC Cruise Control light

Just installed new throttle cables and one has the roll off sensor in it. I never ever used that feature and didn't know it even had it. But since the cables were installed, I don't think my cruise works now. The control on the left grip is on, but the manual said to reset the lash and gave me a procedure. Holding it on resume and starting the bike, a green light should appear for 3 sec. It doesn't and I'm not sure if it only comes on when you are at speed and in gear. The manual doesn't explain the roll off feature all that well so I'm not even sure how it is supposed to be relative to the cables. CC worked before I took the cables off. and I was carefull do put everything exactly back they way it was. Does the CC green light come on when the bike is in gear and rolling or will it come on when you turn on the bike with the resume button pushed forward like I have read? Raining here this weekend so I can t experiment with it.

As far as the idle cable, to me it does nothing except to stiffen up the throttle if its too tight. Book says it would be almost full slack. Any ideas would help. This save all manual I was told to get hasn't helped me on a couple issues already but that's just me.

Have you tried it while riding? Any I have ever had only turned green when CC was engaged.

If you plan on keeping the bike there is a electrical troubling shooting manual. It is awsome!
Fixed my CC issues after installing apes.
I had a connector that felt like it made a connection.....but not .
There is a trouble shooting and reset sequence in the regular manual.

Be sure the wires are attached to the cable and adjust the cables properly per the manual. Cruise turns green once you set it while riding - If I recall correctly, I believe you need to be over 25mph.

Are things not working or you just checking things out? If it's not working and you took off the brake handle, there is a good chance you broke off the light switch. Check to see if your brake lights stay on even without the brake being pulled.

Freeman73, you hit it on the head. When I went for a short ride the other day, I remembered when I applied the front brake, I had felt a little click but paid no attention to it. This morning I decided to see if the brake light was on all the time and sure enough it was. Pulled off the brake handle to inspect the little tab on the handle and all was good but part of the barrel on the end of the switch was sheared off. Just enough for the handle not to engage the switch. Sunday morning and what do I do? I found a small rubber cap that when cut down to 1/4 inch fit snuggly on what was left of the end of the switch. Reassembled it and hey the brake light works again. I do Know that when the brakes are applied a signal goes to the cruise to disengage so when I went for a ride to test the cruise the brake light was on all the time. I OWE YOU. Thank you. The beauty of this forum and the knowledge here is incredible. We tend to overlook the most obvious. The green light still does not come on when I try to set the lash but the light is on the switch and someone said it only comes on at speed anyway. So how does the lash get set, although I never touched that cable. Manual says there is a green light on the electra glides dash, says nothing about Road Kings.

The only other question I have is how the roll off cable works. When looking at it, its a two piece deal where the outer casing of the cable moves when you roll the throttle back. I assume that sends a signal to cut off the cruise as well, but it doesn't return. I never knew I even had that feature and if I cant get it to work, ill disconnect the wires. Who has experience in how that works? Raining AGAIN here today so no test ride

What manual are you using? Are you following the instructions carefully? "Cable Lash Initialization" is the same for EG or RK except you cruise indicator is on the Speedo instead of Tach and the ON/OFF is on your Left handlebar switches

Multihdrdr, I have a 2003 service manual for touring models. Part number 99438-03A. On page 8-99 of this manual, line "d" clearly states (Start the engine. The green Cruise Engaged Lamp (capital letter "C") on the tachometer gauge will illuminate. Wait 3 seconds for the lamp to go off.) I have a 2003 Road King Classic and there is no factory tach. There is only a speedo on the tank.

That's what I said...
Now I see how you might have issues with reading/following the instructions

Dawg gave you a Thread link, but here is the 2006 FSM instructions...read the "Cable Lash Initialization"

And FOLLOW the instructions
