Default ?? on changing road king handbars

I am thinking about change the 04 RK handbars. How do I remove the cover over the center of the handlebars? Is it the same set up under the cover as the sportster modles? I have changed the sportster but not on the RK yet. Am still waiting for my shop manual to come in.
Thanks for any info.

Just had to do this to adjust my bars. I think I searched on here for the correct procedure. I do know that I had to remove the headlight ring, headlight, andlittle cover on the fork locking mechanism. You also have to loosen two nuts that hold the little trim thingy on the center of the nacelle. PLease forgive my techincal names!

You have to remove the cover over the fork lock, remove the two screws. Remove the headlight ring, headlight and the two retaining nuts that hold the chrome molding on the top of the headlight nacelle before you can even remove the cover over the handlebars. What kinda handlebars are you changing to? Keep in mind it is recommended that the handlebar clamp is changed a solid one rather than the two split ones that currently hold the handlebars. Hope this helps.

I just changed mine and it is not to bad of a job I rode for a week with the 2 little handlebar mounts untill I got the solid one it worked fine. I went with 4 inch risers with 1 inch pullback and buckhorn bars, I had to modify the chrome handlebar cover with the dremel to allow the new risers to come up thru but not that bad of a job. I have used the buckhorn bars on almost all of my bikes and just love the riding position they give me they allow me to kick back on the highway pegs without reaching out to hold the bars I hated the stock bars they gave me a backache and neckache everyday. DON'T OVERTIGHTEN THE SCREW HOLDING THE HEADLIGHT TRIM IT WILL BREAK OFF THE HOLDING TAB.
