I have a 1999 Electra glide ultra classic and it’s having an issue with it idling high. I rode to work this morning and when I started it up my idle was about 800rpm or so and and it started idling at 2000rpm or so when I got about halfway to work. When I got off work I went out and started my bike, it went up to 3000 and went back down to 2000. It stayed at about 2000rpm for about half my trip home when it went back up to 2500-3000rpm. Could my throttle positioning sensor be going bad or should I look for another issue that could be happening?
It can be several things. Intake leaks, tp sensor, adjustments, but the one thing I would check first is that the Idle Speed Control (ISC) motor is retracting as the engine heats up. When the bike is first started, it holds the throttle open. As the engine warms up, it drops down. If the motor is stuck out, the bike idles higher and higher as it warms up because the throttle isn't closing.
I would also ask if you have an older PowerCommander on it.
