Just thought I would share that a few weeks ago my 1200T started and stayed with a high idle (~1500 rpm) and it would not go down even after it warmed up. Rode it for 15 miles and it continued to idle high. The solution for me was to reset the TPS using the reset sequence poste by HRod on this thread: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...g-problem.html
"Try this...To reset your idle setting back turn the ignition switch on for 10 seconds off for 10 seconds (do not start the engine), repeat a total of 4 times. That should reset your original throttle position."
"In order to reset all of this stuff to normal you will have to set the handlebar switch to "Run". Then turn the ignition switch to the "On" position for about 10 seconds and then to the "Off" position for about another 10 seconds. DO NOT START THE BIKE! This On and Off procedure must be repeted for a total of four times. Then your throttle position sensor will be back to normal...until you turn if off again before it returns to a normal idle speed."
When I did this I heard a lot of clicking around the throttle which I did not hear before - it worked for me even though it was for other models. Thanks HDF!
l tried it, thought it had worked, but now dont know, as problem returned, ie high idel that may take several seconds to return to “normal” idle, making it difficult to gently slow down, or stop at a light and shift into first without wincing bc the idle is so high?
Does this work with technique work with 2008 xl1200c versions. ?
Does the “reset” affect all functions, or just the throttle position sensor?
If functions revert to factory specs, will this affect performance if stock items have been changed, to high flow air cleaners or exhaust..
thanks
Had a similar issue with my 2015 1200T two weeks ago. When starting cold bike would rev up to 3000 rpm and then return to about 1300 (normal). When hot, the bike would race up to about 3500 rpm and then return to about 1000 (again normal). Checked all the simple conditions, cables for binding, IAC cycling, and cleaned the IAC. No change, so had to take it into the dealership. Found out the intake seals were leaking. Seals were replaced, about 1hr labor. All is good now.
