Default Changing out front rotors.,,,

I'm about to change out the rotors on my '05 Road King. I never did them before, but it looks pretty straight forward. And tricks I need to know to get the old bolts out?.,,

Pretty straight forward. If they give you grief, consider using a hand impact to loosen. Do use new bolts on install.torque to specs per manual.

Those new bolts are damned expensive! Can get by without them?

Technically, the FSM states to replace front rotor bolts each time, but the rears can be used 3 times. I know some folks that have reused the fronts without incident. The front brakes get used much more than the rears generally speaking. It’s up to the individual and the risk they’re willing to take.

I've never tried it but I'll bet if you measured the length of a new bolt and then pulled it out after a while it would be measurably stretched.

Bolt stretch used to be a way to measure proper torque on some fasteners.

Well, yes, but the load on the front is spread across 10 bolts, while the rear is across 5.

I'm not worried about the bolts shearing off, once installed. I'm thinking more about the bolts breaking as I torque them?

Just did mine on a 2011 with 86k - easy peez - don't forget new pads at the same time...New bolts with some red lock tight. But if you need to you could use the old ones....

Doubtful that they will break, it is just good practice. I work in the high performance engine industry and we typically replace certain bolts upon a yearly freshin up. High heat and load is typically a bolt to replace. just my opinion of course.
