I just bought a 2003 Road King peace officer edition. It has a sundowner seat. Bought the standard driver backrest and bracket. The problem I’m having is that the bracket would only install in one position without interfering with the seat and it is too far forward, even with the backrest pad adjusted all the way back. Is there any brackets that would position it properly? Or do I have to bend the bars on the backrest back? Thanks

Return it and get your money back. The Harley backrest is a piece of junk! It always has been too.
Buy the Mustang backrest. It works great with the Sundowner seat and is adjustable on the fly. It folds down to ease you getting on the bike too.
Mine is the same way. I installed the bracket as far back as I could, so the backrest is a battle getting it to engage in the bracket. My bracket it a little too rearward to line up with the slot it the seat, but it does work. It’s just kind of a bitch to take it on and off. I also took the spring out of the backrest pad, so when you stand up and lean forward a little it will automatically fold down for easy dis mount, without having to hold it down. I use a street glide or road glide seat, not sure which it is. Even though the backrest is in a bit of a bind when it’s installed, it has not hurt the seat at all
I believe there is also an adjustment on the pad itself for forward - rearward. Look inside the cover on the back for an Allen screw.
I've got the same seat you have and I know exactly what you mean! I tried moving my bracket farther back but could only move back one hole - it's on the second from forward-most position. I have to literally pull the slot toward the back of bike as hard as I can just to get the backrest frame down into bracket. Yet it's still too forward for my liking and comfort.
Didn't know there was any adjustment on the backrest itself but will look at that later to see if mine does. Thanks Cozz!
