Transmission/primary noise question
thanks
John
I've had work done there before so I left it with him.
6 days including a long holiday weekend later, I called to find out the progress. Not ready yet. Next day, I called back and the owner said I could come and pick it up, Asked how much, he said "no cost".
When I got there he had it up on the platform again, and the clutch/drive side cover was off - he was trying a final adjustment. Long story short, he adjusted the clutch play, gave the bike to me and said "I've worked on the bike and the noise is still there. ...I've failed, and I don't charge for work I can't complete.
"Take it away and drive it until it breaks".
On the way home, it's obvious the situation had deteriorated. Needless to say, I got it home and scheduled a pickup by the dealer, at the end of June, because I need it right.
From what he told me, and the parts I saw in the cardboard box, he replaced the clutch hub, bearing and seal (hub was broken @ the shaft end), drive bearing and seal.
The noise seems to be coming more from the trany rear right side now. We'll see.
Playing with the gearbox is WAY outside my comfort level.
And of course, it's weeeel outside the extended warranty. Oh, well, nobody said I needed to retire.

He really must have been stumped to take a loss on the hours and parts, at least he knows when to give up
if he's over his head. You got some new parts for nada with free labor, can't knock the indy for being straight
up with you at his expense. He replaced a lot of parts, so that might keep the costs at the dealer down some a bit.
I wonder how many indy's would let you out the door for nada? He's a good one, even if he didn't fix your bike.
Good luck!
