Hi all, hoping for some help. I have a '15 road king and had the passing light housings powder coated black. When I reinstalled them I also changed the factory lights to LED's from Eagle. To remove the factory housing I cut the ground wire so I had to solder it when re-installing. The last couple of rides I've noticed one of the lights flickering and after riding the light is off. I can get it to come back on by tapping the housing with my hand, but I can also get it to go back off by tapping. I'm wondering if this may be a plug issue, grounding issue or soldering issue? Appreciate any help!
This is not a powder coating issue. This sounds electrical.
Go back in and check the wiring. You may have a cold solder joint. Did you use heat shrink tubing over the solder joint? Make sure the ground wire is secure and the bulb is seated well in the plug.

My dealer did the solder and it appears there is shrink tubing. Where the ground wire attaches to the rivet does look a little janky. So the outside being powder coated wouldn't affect the ground? The plug is snapped in place and I made sure the female connectors are solidly in place.
It is a ground issue. I did the same with my '16 RK. The light grounds through the contact of the housing with the mounting pieces all the way back to the frame of the bike. I took mine apart at the mounting and sanded off the powder coat where it makes contact with the support bracket. Then I sanded off powder coat where the support bracket makes contact with the mounting point on the fork. Any little bit of debris or powder coat will cause a flicker or no light. Good luck.
I included the pic so you can see the extent of what I had powder coated.
Its the ground. Just had the same issue. Check the powdercoat where the bolts hold the bracket for the passing lamp. Thats where the bracket gets ground from the bolts into the triple tree.
