Default exhaust sound

I was all set to buy the d & D fatcat 2-1 with quiet baffle and talked to a guy today who told me I would not like the sound of a 2-1, as it does not sound "harley" but more like the japanese bikes. I have not heard the sound, as nobody around Lincoln NE has the pipe. Does anyone have input or sound clips? Didn't see anything on D&D site.

I myself prefer the true duals for sound, but if you are out for performance get the 2 into 1.

From the people that I have seen on this thread that have builds and the pipes you mention, I'd have to say that who ever told you it sounds like a japanese bike is more than likely wrong. I'm sure the owners with the D&D Fatcats will throw the BS flag shortly.

I'm running a V&H Pro Pipe 2-1 on my 01 Ultra. It sounds NOTHING like the Honda Shadow 1100 my nephew rides, with the same pipe... The D&D is a little quieter than the Pro Pipe, but still sounds good IMO, a buddy has one on his RKC. (the muffler also doesn't blue like the Pro Pipe)

jeffer60,

I don't know if you got the PM I sent back to you yet, but mine definitely sounds like a Harley! I love the sound at idle and especially when I get on it. Awesome. It is loud though. Not bad at all when cruising at around 2500 rpm or below, but pretty loud at 3000 and above. I'm addicted to rolling the throttle on and listening to it. There is no way in my opinion that I could ever be confused with a metric bike by the sound. When I roll through, people know a Harley is there.

Some peoples kids. Whoever you talked to is partially correct AND nearly deaf.

A 2-1 does not sound like a true dual (which I'm assuming is what a "real" harley sounds like to this guy), but in no way does it sound like anyjapanese bikeI've ever heard.

The closest comparison I can make with my Road Rage is that of a Ducati with a nice pair of slip ons. Not saying it's the same, just saying it's a better comparison than a japanese bike.

What exactly does a Harley sound like anyway? My Toro lawnmower sounds more like a harley than myUltra did when it was stock. My v-rod withRineharts was louder than most twinkies on the road. If you like the 2-1 get it. I love the performance of a 2-1. I just don't like the look on a bagger. The bike looks like something fell off it when you see it from behind.JMHO.

Agreed. Duals are the only way to go on a bagger!

I agree the duals look better when you see the bike from behind, but I can't see my bike from behind when I'm riding it. The rinehart true duals sound awesome, but the 2-1 gives better performance, and for me, that's where it's at. There are a zillion different companies making a zillion different products because everyone wants something different. If they were all the same, how the hell would we find our own bike in a parking lot?
