i don't know why some people find it 'sketchy'. if you look at it and how it works, you'd realize that it is a solid design.
try sticking right leg straight out over the seat like a front kick , get the boot past the seat then you can slide the leg down and simply sit ! No need to swing the leg like a roundhouse and easier on the hip .

i have tried that. believe me, it is much easier to mount from the right with the tour pack on.

That's how I mount and dismount my bike. I saw it in a video once, tried it and have been high side mounting the bike every since.

Folks been trying to improve the HD jiffy stand for years. No one has done it yet. If the bolt is tight on top of the locking tab, its not going to fold up or collapse. Their is a lot more that I would be concerned about before that.

I think the jiffy stand is the thing I trust most on the bike.

Rockout beat me to the punch!!!

I trust the jiffy stand over any other part on the bike. The first few slow rolls forward had me reaching for the bike, but after that I never looked back.

Yep... that's the way that police do it for road safety. Never thought it would be a good idea since I get uneasy with how much the bike rolls forward when first setting the stand... which didn't make me feel confident about mounting from the right.

As for stepping through... if you're 70 years old and have a sundowner seat and a tourpak and you can do that... more power to you... especially after riding 500 miles and stopping for your next tank of gas.
