There is one way around this. With Google Maps you can download the map to your cell phone and if you lose cell service Google Maps will still navigate using GPS.
I had an old Garmin that needed a map update that costs $49.99. I chose to download the iPhone app instead. Same cost, but never out of date anymore. It works when I am out of cell service.
If OP or anyone else is interested another free app that can be downloaded and used without cell signal is Copilot GPS. I have downloaded US region and can get anywhere. But Waze is my favorite and also works as long as you start the route within cellular service areas.
But I digress... just get a zumo and never have to worry about service, inclement weather, vibration and always being able to get where you want...
I used a Ram mount (rammount.com then click motorcycles) that connected to the two screws for the clutch on my 05 ultra. They used longer screws and spacers.
They have mounts for most GPS and smartphones and have different brackets for mounting them. I didn't look but i bet the have mounts for the fairing.
And they are American made

Reason: added describtion of the mount
I'd appreciate an update once you've used it awhile. Can you create and load custom routes into it?
Had this on a couple trips now and yes you can load multi stop routes and save as a favorite to load later. It also has a bluetooth interface as well as a FM transmitter that you can set to any open frequency on the band, I found this most useful as I can toggle my radio from the ipod interface to the FM on the fly (stock HK head with amp and 4 speakers) to hear instructions loud and clear. The iGO software included was limited so I found a current download for $10 online, All POI and addresses for US included. Im not a gps guru by any means but this is a winner for me.

I bought my 11 Limited used. It already had the HD fairing mount attached. I bought a Harley Zumo 660 on eBay for $250.
I ride to the mountains a few times a year and feel much better with a real gps. But I do download Google map sections on my phone so i have a back up plan
I would just use either a Ram Mount or one of the Perch Mounts from Ciro. Both are fine. One work of caution however, if you hook up power by way of the Cigarette Lighter, make sure you use a short plug-in connector. The longer ones (which seem to be standard) are long enough that when you turn the handlebars to the far left the plug will connect with the tank and you will blow a fuse.
if you can stand to drill a hole in your fairing, a camera ball mount works well with the zummo. i put mine right between and just above the speeedo and tack.
