I was going to enter this yesterday, but my momma told me if I couldn't say anything nice, don't say it. Glad you said it first. The only thing beanie helmets are good for is to display a DOT sticker (real or counterfeit) to keep law enforcement off your @$$ in helmet law states. And riders wearing them look like giant erect penises connecting the seat to the handlebars (Sorry, had to say it, Just MHO).
Some of us don't like the Darth Vader look of 3/4 or full helmets.
My view is that if I didn't wear the half helmet, I may choose to not wear one at all. I'm absolutely certain that a full face is the best helmet choice for safety reasons. But that's not my only consideration, there are times I don't care to wear a full face, so a half helmet is better than nothing. Wear whatever makes you feel good, that's what I do...

While I agree the protection is limited, there is some protection. I know this because my bicycle helmet saved me on a fall while riding and it has less protection then the beany helmets. The local high patrol quit using the half-shells not too long ago when they found out that they were useless above 45 mph. But the one local town still uses them because most of their responsibilities on a hot Oklahoma day do not require riding faster than 45mph.
No they aren't. Of course if you drop a DOT approved helmet from higher than 3 feet, it's no longer regulation either. Ultimately I can't bring myself to ride completely without one, but can't stand most of what's on the market. Helmets are pretty much decided by the rider anyway. What's comfortable for them. I used to wear a full faced shoei, but after years of feeling like my cheeks were being pushed through my head finally gave up. Not to mention the heat factor. Would take my helmet off after riding for an hour and it'd look like I dunked my head in a pool. But it's no different than somebody wearing a full face helmet and leather head to toe. If that's what you want to ride in, more power to you. I tried it and after an hour felt like I was going to pass out from the heat lol

Good info - Thanks! I ride half-helmet locally and full-face over the road. Will definitely check-out a few of the options recommended here.
I didn't wear a helmet around town until I got the Bikerhelmets.com helmet...I thought they were called crazy Al's since that's what the box says....I also read they are about the same as the Akoury helmets. Now I never ride without a helmet since it's so light it's like not wearing one...I have a FF an 3/4 an I wear one of those if I know I'm going to be doing a lot of highway miles because the wind eventually starts irritating my eyes. I'm the "do what makes you happy" type so I don't try to push an opinion on helmets....if you don't want to wear one don't...if you wear a FF all the time...great for you... If you want something that's light an convenient an locks in the saddlebag the Crazy Al's works for me.

true that..... i bought a full face a couple months ago.....gave it an honest effort.......it pretty much took my happy away..........ill wear what i want.......and im pretty much a dick anyway... so ill go ahead and look the part .... as long as that one poster doesnt ask for a ride ; )
