Good thread. Thanks for posting. Yes, we all know full face helmets are the best protection and half helmets are only slightly better than no helmet at all. I own two full face and one half helmet. I know I should always wear a full face but I hate those damn things. I’m claustrophobic. My half helmet is really nice (HD brand with pull down sun visor) but I hate it too. It’s heavy and makes my neck hurt on long rides. I just got back from a 1700 mile round trip to Georgia. I wore my half helmet because GA and TN have helmet laws. When I crossed into Kentucky on the way home I wanted to take that helmet off in the worst way but didn’t have any effective way of fastening it to the bike where it wouldn’t rattle around and get on my nerves so I just put up with it. I’m in the market for a lightweight helmet that’ll keep from getting popped in helmet law states. If I was smart I’d just strap on one of my full face helmets and deal with the discomfort in the name of safety. Or maybe just give up on the whole thing and drive my nice air conditioned cage. But I want to enjoy the ride and as much as I’ve tried to force myself to do the smart thing and wear the full face I just can’t do it. Helmet laws suck and I plan to buy one of the lightweight helmets I learn about in this thread and wear it next time I go south of Kentucky.
Have the Akoury ak-66. Slapped a couple of HD stickers on it and it became a very light, inexpensive HD knock off.
I only use it on short rides with hot weather. Longer, cooler rides or Interstate travel I wear my full face of course.
Been waiting for a sale haven’t checked the website this week. Logged on with 2hrs left of the sale and saved $40 on the helmet I’ve been looking @!!!
Nice - Glad to hear!
I picked up their SOA Carbonator w/o the peak a week ago. Fits great and I love the quick-release. After a few rides I was regretting not going with the visor. My wife decided she wanted one as well and when I bounced back in there today to order hers (with the peak) I found it discounted and I couldn't resist grabbing another for myself.
