Around town and such I wear a beanie style helmet. Is it the safest no..... Is it better than wearing nothing @ all ? YES
I wear a modular or Full face when I’m touring. If I know I’m gonna be on the highway for hours then I’ll put 1 on. If I’m just riding around town I’m not wearing a bunch of gear. Part of what makes riding a HD great is being comfortable and relaxed. Nice summer day I don’t want a full helmet leather jacket and chaps on!!! Beanie, boots, gloves, glasses n jeans that’s about it. Don’t like it cool that’s your problem not mine. I’m still riding safer than the guy in shorts and flip flops so go criticize him 1st!
I know a beanie isn’t the safest but I wear a half helmet now and that’s as far as I go for helmets, anything more and it’s no fun. I just ride around town and back country roads. I’m not getting a taller shield that I have to look through. As I have been reading more I’m just going to use the windshield for cold weather riding.
But the idea of a smaller lighter helmet is appealing as I have compressed discs in my neck that pinches a nerve after about an hour and a half.
As far as looks go at 62 I don’t care.
two thumbs up on the akoury...light,low profile and no bobble head like my fulmer half helmet. Its very thin and most people i show it too are surprised it's dot approved. Did I mention the quick release strap? And all that for about 100 bucks. I am in no way affiliated with akoury or any of its distrubutors, just a happy customer.
Another vote for the Akoury, awesome quality and fit. JR
I've been a fan of the German style novelty helmets. The last one I bought was absolute junk and the strap broke so I am wearing a Bell Scout Air 1/2 helmet. It is the lightest and lowest profile DOT helmet I've found.
I have the Akoury AK-66, and it's the best helmet I've ever owned. Several of my friends bought them after seeing mine due to the extreme low profile. It's very good quality and DOT-approved as well.
If your going to wear a 1/2 at least make it DOT or offer some sort off real protection. I wear a Vega XTS and its light, extremely well made and comfortable on my head shape mainly in hot summer. Otherwise its a Shoei FF in inclement and colder temps. 1/2 helmets suck in the rain even behind a huge windshield.
