Default Reduce engine heat

Have a 09 Glide Classic 96"

Any ideas on cooling it down ?

I know there are oil coolers you can get, but they don't help much when you're stopped in traffic... unless you get the ones with a fan
and they are expensive.

Wondering if anyone came up with a creative alternative idea ?

For instance I was wondering if you could add and mount an additional oil can in the system, even if you only got an extra qt in there
that should help some ??

How about the heat wrap around the exhaust pipes, does that at least help keep the driver cooler ?

Any thoughts or other ideas ?

A stage one with SE super tuner biased as rich as possible cooled mine down a lot. Doesn't get great mileage and smells a bit like my Dad's old oldsmobile with the choke pulled out, but runs great.

Have helped a few bikes by adding a Captain Itch Crotch Cooler. Reasonably priced and look good IMO. Plain leather or decorative designs. Great company to do business with and a forum sponsor.

I agree totally with the thread on the Crotch Cooler, best inexpensive purchase I have made for my bike. Had it on my Heritage, and then transferred it to my RGS.
Cant beat it

Check out this very informative report. It's full of info on how to cool down your Twin Cam engine.

Why & How to Cool Down the Twin Cam & Milwaukee-Eight Engines

There are many simple, inexpensive mods that can be done to cool your bike down like an Oil Filter Relocation, Tank Lift, and Cooling Deflector Wings.

We talk about all of the above in great detail in the report link.

"Why bother cooling down the engine on your bike?

1. It will last longer"

Not sure I buy into this reason unless there are 3rd party components that will be short lived due to heat.

I have 108K on the original 103 wet head that came on my '14 Limited. It has seen a lot of hot road time, but it still runs just as strong as day one. No stage work at all. 100% original minus black heat shields on the exhaust and SE Street Canons.

"3. It will have more power (enough that you will feel the difference when you twist the throttle)"

I admit when it gets hot you can feel some power loss. However, that feel is not necessarily the engine! I found that the stock clutch plates were fading when hot, just like brake fade on your car after being on the highway for a while. I changed out my cluck pack for a Rekluse Torq-Drive and that fade no longer exists. Now that I don't have any clutch fade, I have no power loss when hot.

"2. It will be more comfortable to ride (less felt heat)"

This is the only reason I will eventually stage one my bike, but I am waiting for the end of my ESP coverage.

Just my experience and $.02.

Cheers

My fix is to richen it up quite a bit also. I have a couple of different seasonal tunes now.

I installed the HD mid deflectors. They did a surprising amount to cool my legs.
