So I rode my first Electra Glide over the weekend and it has me considering stepping up. I currently have a 2012 Fatboy Lo and I really like it. But I'm a big guy and after about an hour I need to stop and get off because my *** can't handle it.
I'm looking at a 2009 Ultra Classic with 76,000 miles (haven't seen it in person yet). I was told not to worry about the mileage but I'm still unsure.. I'm sure that if it was taken care of and properly maintained it should be fine, but you just never know when buying used bikes. I know it has a 96ci but what transmission will it have? Also, is 09 the year they got the bigger back tire? What other goodies will it have?? This would be a big step up for me so I'm curious what all I'd be gaining.
Open to all comments and info. Only way I can make the trade is if it's in my favor, so I'm not 100% on the deal yet .Plus I still need to go look at it actually.
09 will have the 6 speed tranny, new frame and yes the bigger back tire from previous years. I would think you could find an 09 with a lot less miles on it than that one and not pay much of a difference, but not sure how much the are asking for this bike you are looking at.
BTW...the stock seats on the 09's really sucked so be prepared to change the seat.

Been very happy with my recent purchase in November. Had 23k mi, upgraded to a 103ci, SE slip ons, SE tuner pro, custom paint & rims $11,900
I changed from an 07 FXD to my 07 Ultra and have not looked back. The 09 has the wider tire and frame upgrade, 96ci and six speed trans as others have pointed out.Depending on the price, that might be a little high mileage but then again it depends what has been done to it and when. My 07 had a new SE110, New Trans and New Clutch so the 54000 on the clock was less of a concern for me. If completely stock, pay close attention to how well it starts and try and see how it starts when hot?warmed up, the 09 still had the compensator that was originally designed for the 88ci and they tend to go bad, typically noticeable when hot . Only you will know if it is the right price for the bike, good luck and post pic's if you do it.
I had an 09 Ultra Classic that I sold to buy a TriGlide. I loved the UC and I also changed the seat because the stock one didn't allow me to ride long distance (>300 miles). Like someone said ialready, the 09 model has the 96ci engine, 6 speed tranny, new frame and a 180 rear tire.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy an Ultra with 76,000 miles if it has been properly maintained, if you can get all maintenance records and receipts from the seller, and of course if the price is right. But before you pull the trigger unless the price is extremely attractive, I suggest you check eBay, CycleTrader and also Facebook (Marketplace) where you should be able to find a lot of used bikes with less miles on the odo.
Remember it's a buyer market and used UCs don't sell like hot cakes unless they're priced very attractively. Good luck!
I have a good riding buddy with 140k miles on his 09 Ultra. He did do a 103 kit around the 80k mile mark and it is still going strong. He lost half the teeth off the drive belt back in December when we were on our annual winter Florida ride.
I had a 2010 Ultra that I traded in at 56K miles in 2016. It looked and rode like new. I got $11,500 trade in for it and the dealer sold it the same day I traded it in. The only issue with the 2010's was the transmission. I had two failures under warranty.
If your budget would stand it I would try for a 2012 model with the 103.
In March I purchased a stock 2009 EG UC for $11,500 (Atlanta area). The previous owner had added SE intake, slip-on V&H Big Ovals, Power Commander, and several shiny trim pieces. The bike had 12k miles on it.
While looking I was finding bikes in the southeast around $11k-$13k... with under 30k miles.
I have s 2010 ultra and I live it I have had a few thing go bad right at 40,000 I would think with as many miles as you say is on the 09 if there were any problems they have been taken care of by now. Bottom line you will know when you see it.
