So I bought a new headset from a member here and quickly realized the speakers on it are larger then recess holes in my helmet HTC IS-max2 had for speakers. I then discovered that these speakers are larger then the cutout for practically every helmet I looked at. I had to remove styrofoam from my helmet to make them fit and it was hurting my ears still so I need to remove more...
I'm not exactly the most comfortable grinding away the inside of my helmet of material meant to protect my noggin. Is there a helmet that actually works with the Harley Headset without modifications?
Fyi I've seen that the new BT version has smaller speakers for this very reason I assume. I prefer the corded one because I don't want to have to charge anything. Kind of like how I wish they would quit removing the headphone jack from phones.
I'll be following this thread as I have the same problem... I have Shoei RF 1200 helmets and had to cut out Styrofoam inside the ear pockets to get them to fit. Used a silicone calking to hold them in place afterward. Can't find any helmet on the market that will sink the headphones in without cutting.
I don't like the HD headsets because they aren't very good quality, so I can't help you there. However, I do recommend J&M Corp headsets. They are excellent quality, the audio is substantially better, and they have multiple sizes for different helmets.
They even offer the exact helmet you have with their headsets pre-wired in. You can also send yours in and they will install it for you. https://www.jmcorp.com/Static/hjc.htm
I’ve got a J&M 787 Elite that was in my HJC IS Max II. It fits perfectly and the sound quality is second to none. I’ll sell it to you if you’re interested.

I use a Shoei 1100 and the WHIM module with Sena/HD headset fits into it without problems. I am not impressed with the audio quality from the WHIM Sena/H-D system, however, the headset fits into the Shoei helmet.
