Default Lower Leg Fairing Removal

Hey guys. I'm thinking that I would like to remove the stock vented lower leg fairings onmy 07 Ultra so I can get more air flow during these hot summer months of riding. On quick glance, I'm thinking it may not be as easy as I think it ought to be. Has anyone done this and what's involved? I don't want to get in over my head or damage the bike in any way. I'll most likely put them back on in the fall for the cooler days. Also, can you just mount highway pegs to the stock engine guard once the fairings are removed? Thanks for any and all help/suggestions

Piece of pie!! Easy as cake!!! Open the glove box and remove the two nuts. Remove the torx screw from the bottom of the fairing, and off they come. Pegs work fine on the crash bar, and BTW, it is MUUUUUCCCHHH cooler. Just got back from a ride to the dragon from the western part of TN.....very comfy during stop and go traffic in Gatlinburg.

I used a 3/8 drive with 6" extension and a 11mm socket for the two nuts in the fairing cap.
For the bottom, a torx 40 socket and a 1/2" open end wrench.
Invest in the proper tools and this is a 2 minute per side task.

Thanks guys! I'm gonna do that tomorrow! Looking forward to not sweating my azz off while riding! LOL I thought it might be fairly easy, but I could screw up a free meal sometimes! Thanks for the advise and ride safe!

Did mine tonight for the same reason.. even though vented, you still don't get the same airflow with the lowers on. Took all of about 10 minutes from start to finish including deciding what size the nuts were and putting it all back together for storage. I put the nuts back on and the lower clamp back together so I know where every piece is when I get ready to re-install them. No problem at all to take off or install.

Good luck

Rivco Products makes a quick install kit to make removal of the lowers a very easy deal. They havets for the vented and the earlier non-vented lowers. I have them on my 02 and they are great. Taking a long trip with the lowers on keeps all the crap off and can be very handy in the rain. Once you get where you are going pop the lowers off and set aside. Best $100 I spent on the bike. Just a thought.

Very easy to remove. I then purchased a "quick Detach Kit" from eGlideGoodies consisting of:4 quick detachable clamping devices, thatemploys a "rivet nut". This rivet nut locks down the upper clamp assmebly and also provides a safe point of leverage for the "J" hook wish is part of the quick detach system. Well worth the $90. and they also have "seat pads" for my boney ****.www.eglidegoodies.com

why spend 90$ for the quick detach kit from eglide goodies...it only takes 2 minutes to remove the bolts as it is.

2-10min... seems a 'quick detach' for me .... couple tools (which I keep in my bags) and I'm off and running. Think I'll be a testin it all out in Sturgis. I'll leave my lowers on for the trip there (I use my hiway pegs most of the time anyway when cruisin) to catch more bugs and just in case it rains on my trip. Then when I get there I'll probably yank 'em while there.
