Sorry OP, as this isn't a pic yet of what's in my bags, but I wanted to show you what I carry them in. I use the pouch set from Innovative Storage Solutions, and it fits right into the groves at the bottom of the saddle bag so it really takes up very little bag space. They sell full tool kits, but you can get the bags empty and compile a nice tool set much cheaper. Here they are: https://www.storagepouches.com/produ...4-pc-pouch-set
Modern day motorcycles, even Harleys, are pretty reliable these days, a good pre-maintanence routine can keep on road break downs to a minimum. I just carry the basic tools I need to do minor repairs or get me to a place for bigger repairs. A couple of adjustable wrenches, multi screw driver, vice grips, torex/allen wrenches and zip ties to name a few. If I don't have enough tools, CAA/AAA and a credit card.
I hear you and you're right. But, when you can self rescue; you can go to cooler places where a phone and AAA aren't an option
It is and I needed every tool I had; I just didn't know it yet
I've had enough wrench time on my bike the past two months. Your experience needing every tool you had on that bike-eating route re-enforces my decision to nix the haul road from my trip.
My initial decision to cut it was made after watching a bunch of videos on it, and hearing two riders comment "why did we even do this?" Because the destination wasn't worth the effort in their minds. "Because it's there" isn't for everyone
I'm glad to hear that you seem no worse for the wear.

I've been up and back twice, only once did I have trouble. Even with that, I'll do it again. There aren't many places you can go anymore and really be on your own with what you brought and your wits. If it's crossed your mind, do it; it's not that difficult.
