Default 18 Street Glide Special 12" Bars HELP

All,

Pretty new to this forum and hoping you guys can help me out before I purchase a set of bars I been checking out. I am interested in these 12" bars here: https://www.jpcycles.com/product/721...gger-handlebar. My most pressing question, will these fit my 2018 Street Glide Special no problems without purchasing any new cables/lines/wiring or extensions?

Next questions, does anyone recommend a different set of 12" bars they like better or even at a better price? Especially if these bars require new cables/lines I am totally open to a set of 12" bars that don't require them...

I am mechanically inclined but a bit nervous about doing these bars on my own. What does everyone think, are they challenging and would you have rather have paid approx. $300 to someone to do them for you? I think that is very expensive which is why I am leaning towards trying to install them myself. Any special tools required or tips?

Appreciate all the help!

I paid $650 total to have my 12 inch KST's installed by KST at their vendor tent at bike week. I was in and out in 40 mins, worth every penny to me to not have to worry with it. I'm sure I could have done it but it was an impulse buy so it all worked out. I love them by the way, feels like a totally different bike. (2017 SGS)

It’s hard to say whether or not you will have to lengthen your lines, wiring, and cables. It all depends on what the MoCo installed in your bike, and your new bar dimensions such as width and pullback, not just height. Most of the time people can go up to 12” without having to but that often requires re-routing things. If it were me I would plan to go longer. Get all the stuff you need before starting the job. Then if you don’t need to go longer you don’t have to. There are tons of bars to choose from so enjoy the search lol. Many of us...like me...went through several bar changes before finding the right one. I have mounted 4 bars on my bike all with internal wiring and everything. It’s much easier the second time. The other thing people will say is that most wish they would have gone higher.

KST used my stock clutch and brake cables. They did put their wire extension kit on just because it sped things up exponentially, he wired the new bars on the bench before ever touching my bike. I'm 6'2 and I personally would not want to go any higher than the 12's on my bike, that's all rider preference though.

Thanks everyone! I’m going to start disassembling my stock bars tonight after work. UPS shows my KST 12” bars coming in this Friday so installing them and putting everything back together will be my Friday night job / Saturday morning.

Any advice for me on removing the stock bars and installing these KST 12”? I’m going to call around Harley shops today in CT and try to locate someone that has the switch wire extension kit since I heard it will make the install 10x easier...

Pretty nervous to try this on my own but I think if I take my time and take photos as I go I’ll be alright, any tips or comments are much appreciated!

Joe

Also do I have to de-pin the throttle harness connector to route through new bars?

I have the 12" KST Mayhem Bagger apes. The customer service there is awesome. Also the bar swap is nothing more than a pain in the ***. Looks daunting, but can be done pretty easily. Even a first timer could do it in a day. And yes you will have to depin the throttle by wire to get it through. Can be done with an oring pick
