Sounds like the starter solenoid engaging the starter gear into the ring gear but it's not engaging the starter. Or the motor is locked up.
As someone mentioned, put it in a high gear and see if you can push it, with a helper, to make sure the motor is free. Hopefully it's just a bad starter. You can pull the starter and bump it out of the motor to see if it spins. If not, bad starter.
I assume it was running fine when you parked it and shut it off last time. As you said, ran fine for a few hours. The motor didn’t just lock up sitting in your garage. I’ve never heard one sound like that but my best guess is a loose battery cable. The starter is getting just enough juice to engage the bendix but not enough to turn over. Any time I do a bunch of work and something weird happens my first question is what did I do wrong? Go back and retrace your steps. You had to disconnect the battery before you did all that work. At least you should have. Right? Make sure all terminal and ground connections are clean and tight. If so, have your battery load tested. If all of that’s good pull the starter and have it bench tested.
