My wife is riding a 2012 Trigluide and her right leg cooks. Most wemen we talk to have the same problem. We're thinking on trading it in for a 2018 but haven heard if this is still a issue. We done a lot to try to resolve this but nothing helps.
I ride a 2015 RGS and my wife has never complained about engine heat. Rear cylinder head does not really reach the passenger. I feel it on VERY hot days in stop and go which I'm rarely and exposed to. Not an issue at speed. Her feet and legs are really not anywhere near the heat source ie the engine. I'm assuming your better half always has pants and riding boots on as well. I've never felt the cat heat so many complain about after 4 years on my Rushmore ride. Might be different in shorts something i would never ride in.
I feel the heat from the cat on my right leg an I never ride in shorts. I'm swapping out the exhaust pipes soon to get rid of it. You can reduce the effect with a good tune an better flowing mufflers. Fuel Moto an Fullsack offer replacment head pipes that are ceramic coated inside an out to reduce heat even more.
I could not keep my right foot on the boards until I installed a Fullsac header... tried all kinds of stuff on my ‘09 with no cat; wrapped header, Dyno tune, crotch cooler without any relief.
Your basically sitting on top of an exposed engine. Any and every motorcyle is the same, all exposed engines. Itches crotch cooler helped, but still sitting atop an exposed engine. It's a motorcycle
