Always liked fish tails. Just looking for directional info at this point. 11RK with heavy breather, 4" Fuelmoto Jackpots, PV3 from FM. S&S 551 cams soon.
They do bite. And they have sharp teeth. I just picked up my King about a month ago. It came with Sampson cholo 39's. They sound good at idle and wot. Cruising they sound a little high pitched for my liking. I cant comment on performance since I was previously on a 15 Street Glide with a Fat Cat and tuned. Dropping down to the 88 and different gearing is a big difference.
Here's my 02 RK with 33" fish tails. Mine are the basic straight pipes you can buy anywhere. I added baffles from Big City Thunder to make it run right. The bike also has a stage 1 upgrade from Fuel Moto with a tuner. I have driven this bike as shown cross-country many times without a single issue. It runs great and sounds great. As far as performance, its not the optimal setup but I don't care. I have a 2015 Street Glide for that. Fishtails are the coolest!
Fishtails are all about that sound. Nothing sounds like'em. Stuff a baffle in them and they perform like any other true dual system. I think the hy way cruising noise comes down to length. The longer they are the less they buzz your ears..... All other things being the same. I've put them on pretty much every bike I own. I'm currently running 36 inchers with no baffle and a stock headpipe with a Cat. Best combo I have ever created in terms of sound and ridability.
And, they only cost me $170 shipped!

I love fishtails, I have the V&H fishtail slip ons with the V&H dresser duals. Sound great and somewhat loud, which I like. You can install the quiet baffle if loudness is not your thing. Picture of them in my signature. They are full length covered by a heat shield so there will be no blueing or discoloration showing. https://products.vanceandhines.com/store/harley/16775/
