Default How many miles are to much???

So long story short. Got a hell of an offer on my 2000 ultra classic so I sold it. Found a couple bikes I'm looking at. Local Harley shop has a 09 Electra glide with 16k miles on it for $9k. They just got in a 2011 ultra classic with 40k miles. I'm waiting on a price on it. Also found a 2010 Electra glide with 75k miles on it for $5500. At what miles do these motors need rebuilt ? Or think I should just buy the 09? Stuck between a rock and a hard place here. And new is outta the question. I don't want a bike payment lol

Unless they are your miles you'll never know how they were put on. Was it a weekend touring guy that put on easy highway miles or was it some in town rock star who sat at stop lights cranking his engine to impress the boys.

Another vote for the 09.

I agree with the others, buy the 09. It's pretty much the same bike as the other 2 with less miles.

Not that 40000 is a lot but buythe lowest mileage bike you can afford.

I bought a used Tour Glide to go on a trip that had about 59,000 miles on it. I rode it from KY to CA and back without a problem. I bought it b/c I had two local mechanics tell me to get a touring bike with a evo engine, since I was buying used.....they swear by them. I enjoyed the bike so much, now I want a new road Glide....wish I would of just bit the bullet in the 1st place but since I'm a chopper guy I didn't think I would care much for a touring bike and boy was I wrong. I personally would rather buy a bike with miles versus buying a bike that has been sitting for long periods of time and end up with a polished turd. If your unsure, I also would get a mechanic you trust to look it over, even if it cost you a little....because a good mechanic should be able to help you determine if the low mileage bike or high mileage is a gem.

you gotta remember resale value. Lower mile bikes sell. You might think now that this is the last bike youll ever own but that is probably not true...youll sell it at some point and wish you had gotten the lower mile bike.

Resale value is moot in today's market. Buy it and ride the snot out of it. Looking at H-D as an investment is foolish unless its a "anniversary" or CVO or something in a "limited run". Just like everything else. I know guys with bikes that dont ride them because of "miles and resale values" that's not what they are meant for. You are better off buying H-D collectibles for resale value. ( Just my oopsinion)
