Default new member question

Hi just joined up today looking for some info on my "02 FLHTPI. Tachometer quit and on inspection, found electrical connection at tach broken, must be RPM signal tab. My question is other than for information purposes, is the tach gauge functioning critical? No check engine light, MC seemed to run OK for remainder of ride. Also, while checking the connections with a test light a green "C" lit on face of tach. Don't recall seeing this before. Any ideas as to what it is? I don't have an electrics shop manual. Thanks

Fix the broken connector and then see what if anything has changed. It's pointless chasing that 'C' while you have a known fault which is simple to fix!

as i said, the connector is broken at the tach, very small tab. I can't see any way to repair it. That is why I asked if the tach function was critical. 99% of time I don't notice tach reading. If it is an output signal to the gauge I don't think it would matter if it does function.

I'm sure our wizards in here are able to offer advice on fixing it! Can you show us a photo of the broken connector? The wire to the tach is bound to be detachable from the bike and if necessary a local repair shop should be able to reconnect it for you. What man has made he can usually repair - you just need a 'man who can'! Between us we can do this......

To answer your question, no it is not critical and strictly for information. I added an aftermarket tachometer to my 01 Road King but just because. It took a dump about a year ago and I replaced it. Fix it or not and ride on.

In 2002, on bikes with cruise control, there is a green "C" that will light up on the tach when the cruise is set.
After a delay of about 1-1/2 seconds, the green cruise engaged lamp (capital letter C) on the face of thetachometer gauge illuminates

Here is a photo of the tach connectors. the circled tab is missing the electrical connector seen in the adjoining terminals. Can't see anyway to reattach connector, it is very small. Perhaps I can set metal connector in place and flood that pocket with solder in hopes of making some connection.
