Sounds like to me that Pops is scarred. []You can have problems with anything if it's not put together right. Put it on. [sm=icon_rock.gif]

did either one of you guys modify or change the kit in any way?im just nervous cause we often ride pretty far(300-600 miles not uncommon)i also ride to work 3 days a week 180mi up a 9% graderound trip over the mountain to vegas.its currently 103degrees here, but we see 118+ every summer.i know i sound like a bitch, but you can understand the financial cost of it.got the kit on ebay for 998(great deal)but the install is gonna be 2100-2400.is it really worth it

Those prices sound high. I had mine installed at the dealership for 2k, parts and labor. Also, have not had any problems with it, it's worth the $$$. I think your dad just dosen't want to get his butt kicked

I had the 103 kit with a SERT and RH true dualsinstalled on my 05 Classic before I took delivery. Runs very strong. Dyno tuned @ 1500mi to 94hp/101tq). This was my first new E-glide since my 92 Evoand I wish I had waited until I learned more about setting up a twin cam. 2 years and 20,000 mi laterI'd do things differntly. Keep in mind that HD kept this kit "EPA Street Legal in all 50 states" There's alot of potential left sitting on the table and it's alot cheaper to do things now while it's apart. Also I'd look for an good independent builder in your area. Your gonna save some coin and get better results over most Dealer's shops. You will also get good (unbiased) help with your choises. With the setup described below I could have been at 115/120 HP and around 130 on the TQ and had a more reliable build.

1)If it had been available I'd have gone with Zipper's ThunderMax ecm with autotune instead of the sert. The cost of the sert and dynotune would have payed for the ThunderMaxand itwould have negated the need to re-tune with future changes.

2) When the cases were split for thestroker install I'd have had the crank bearing upgrade as the stock (left side I belive) bearing is concidered to be a weak point whenbuilding upa TC.

3) You can do alot better than the SE253 cams that come with the kit. Zippers has some great choices here to. I'dhave gone with gear drive cams to eliminate the potential hazards and maintanenceassociated with the stock cam chain tensioners.

4) The AC that comes with the kit is more restrictive than the SE, again it's "Street Legal"

5) Head work is always a plus but that isn't to hard to do later

6) I'd have gone to the Bigger Bore jugs and made it a 110.

7) An oil cooler is a must

You can ebay the unused "Kit" parts with them someone can make a 95 out of their 88. How does your dad like the taste of dust?

There are way to many variations of a SE 103 kit to answer this question correctly. It is very easy to just slap parts together and realize the problems your Dad is likely warning you about. If the parts are matched and assembled correctly you will have nothing but smiles. If you're not capable of doing the work yourself, you need to find a competent builder AND tuner to get max potential out of your build. Sounds like you should do some additional research before making any appointments. You could start by listing each part that was in that kit you bought. Chances are there are people on this forum that can tell you if it is a good match of components and an estimated result.

Good luck
