Default sound deadener 2003 RKC

We all chase that elusive and annoying valve train noise and for the most part its louder with the windscreens on. I have noticed this year that the noise was more apparent and I even went so far as putting in Rockouts and new Lifters. The tick is gone but still a lot of noise and compared to last year, its greater. So I thought what has changed from last year to this. Seven months ago I installed a 2inch tank lift kit and I am wondering if this could be part of it. On my 03 RKC, the sides of the tank sat low to the heads, now its considerably more open. I'm just throwing this out there but has anyone ever tried putting in some sort of Acoustic deadening material in the tunnel of their tank? I don't know if that would help or not but its a thought.

Change out your motor oil to Spectro 25W60 dino. I got that tip from Rockout himself.

I noticed my RK windshield really catches the engine top end noise. Put some sound deadenere under your tank and see if that helps. I bought a full face helmet and that reduced it for me. It’s not harmful so I have to ignore it.

hbsoldier3, I may try that but I suppose I should wait now till spring as the riding season up here in Ontario will only be another month or so. Found a distributor though. They have never sold it. Have or do you use it and what type of temps are you riding in.

I'd ride it above 50F. Give it another min to warm up too. I love riding with SAE 50 here, but I live in the desert.

I use it, I live in SoCal near the desert, so it is hot. However, winter temps will bring it down to the mid thirties.

You lifted your tank to get more airflow? And now you want to stuff the space with insulation. Sounds counterintuitive to me...

I just put a 1.5" Tank Lift Kit on my 2018 Road King and there seemed to be a bit more valve train noise, especially on very hot days when the oil was thinnest. The full windshield does indeed reflect and focus more engine noise back at the rider.
I put a block of dense, closed cell, black foam in the throat of the tank tunnel (at front of tank), but I did it initially for cosmetic reasons (so you wouldn't see that gaping maw in the raised tank above the backbone). It may be helping to reduce the noise a bit, even though it only fills the front gap and not the entire tunnel. The open tank tunnel could possibly act as a megaphone, sending amplified engine noise towards the windshield, which then bounces back at you!
