I have learn pretty much the same moving from the north west to Arizona however after talking with some natives I learned that there is no such thing as a maintenance free battery , they dry out fast . I unseal and refill every year cars and motorcycle and limit tender time because it drys them out faster . When filled, after one year the acid will evaporate below the plates by over 1/4 inch. My Yausa 500ca filled every year is on its 5th year running strong . Also I now unseal all new batterys because I've found them not even filled to the top of the
plates.
First time I've read that anywhere on any forum, HD or otherwise. Provide some links/info to support that? Thanks.
Any pitfalls to look out for while replacing the battery on these newer bikes ? Should fob be present when battery is disconnected ? Pull the main fuse or boom fuse ? Just swap the battery out with no worries ? I don't have the factory siren, so that won't be a problem.

Agree on the tenders - Never used a tender in my life, not on any vehicle, Cars, Boats and Bikes.
Im sure tenders do more damage to batteries then the ones without.
Heat kills batteries, tenders (depending on brand/type) can keep batteries too warm. Not even sure of the purpose, batteries have limited life, from TV remotes to flashlights, to cars, truck and planes.
To me its just easier to ignore them for 3 or 4 years and replace them whether you need too or not. )
I never get stuck anywhere and the cost is a tiny fraction of what it cost to maintain any vehicle.

I have to admit, you've got me interested to see how my AGM battery is doing. I've got a YAUSA 500 CCA battery that's less than two years old and almost failing the load test, guess I've got nothing to lose to open the seals and see what's going on.
When the bike is running the onboard charging circuit is maintaining the onboard battery? In effect the charging circuit becomes the battery tender. A battery is electrical, it is wise to be aware of the potential hazards - not in terms of electric shock but in terms of electrical fire due to short circuits both internal and external.
