For the most part it's been fairly trouble free so far... but a couple things I have had trouble with...
  • A broken wire in the throttle body wire harness. This seems to be a fairly common issue... maybe not all bikes, but many. It took me a bit to find, but basically one of the wires in the harness had broken inside the wire's jacket. After soldering in a length of wire, it's running fine again.
  • I've recently noticed oil under the bike. I'm not certain yet, but it seems to be coming from where the crank case comes together on the bottom side of the engine. I've tried tightening the two bottom bolts a bit (I don't know the torque needed, so, I've not over tighten), but it still leaks a little (not much, just a quarter+ sized spot in the garage over night).
  • I adjusted the clutch (it was slipping a bit)... this is really just regular maintenance though.
The bike is a blast to ride... I ride it everywhere. Hopefully the oil is nothing major... if it is something that requires cracking the case, I'll probably just keep a watch on the level and hope it doesn't get worse before I have it fixed or trade it in/pass it on.

Ride Safely!
John.
I have an "08 FLHT, with a bit over 115,000 miles on the clock. Had an oil seep like you described. Checked the oil pan bolts, all good. Turned out to be the two lowest bolts on the transmission end cover, the bolts that secure the mid pipe mount to the bike., middle of bike, on the right side. Hard to see unless you get down a bit. Both were loose. Torqued them down, cleaned the area, and voila! No more seepage. Worth a look, maybe ten minutes work to fix. That includes removing bolts, cleaning and applying locktite to the threads.

I 101,000 miles on my 05 standard when I sold it in '14. Replace cam chain tensioners, replaced the rotor and stator with cycle electric, and the front motor mount at some point. Other than that, trouble free.

As the others have suggested you should get plenty of miles out of it before you have to concern yourself with any significant maintenance.

'08 FLHT. broke a piston at 70,000 miles. Under extended warranty. No sweat. Bike now has over 115,000 miles on the clock, all of them by yours truly, and it has been probably the most dependable motorcycle I've ever owned, and I've been riding, wrenching, and owning bikes for over 50 years.
