It would be wise if you did. Anytime there is a drastic change in the airflow either in to or out of the engine you need to recalibrate the AFR.

Removing baffles completely makes for an extremely obnoxiously loud sounding bike and it isn't a good sound by any means. I hope I never get stuck behind you.

I have V&H Monster Ovals on my 2009 EG. I recently swapped out the Power Commander V for a V&H FP3 which has an auto-tune feature... so, it could get around the remap concern.

I too have considered removing the baffles... but I kinda like the low rumble sound they have now. I've not investigated too much... so not sure if the baffles can be removed and easily re-installed later if I want to swap back.

Ride Safely!
John.

My experience, with a different bike, is yes. It will run a lot better. V&H sent me a custom map for my setup which was only a custom exhaust. It was nothing extreme. My experience is they'll send you a map for just your setup if there isn't a map fit for your setup.

I was always told that you needed some back pressure to prevent firing into the exhaust. But I'm old school and a lot has changed.

What is your goal? If you are otherwise happy with the bike now, the SHADE TREE way is to do the baffle thing and ride the bike. If the computer can compensate within the acceptable variation range, it can maintain the same air/fuel ratio you have now. If your engine light comes on, the adjustment to maintain the current mixture exceeds the authority built into the computer and a remap will be necessary. If your goal is to maximize performance, a remap away from the EPA lean settings would help regardless of whether you remove baffles or not.
