Just bought a one-owner 02 RK Police bike with 108k miles...$2,500. All maintenance was done at HD dealerships. Needed a new drive belt and rear pulley, already had new tires and a new clutch within the last 5k miles. Couldn't pass that deal up, it runs and rides great. The girlfriend absolutely loves it. She's had about a month to ride it, but since its turning colder here we'll be putting it on the lift for some going through. Cam chest updating, exhaust and air cleaner changes is about all that is planned.

$5500 for an 09? Just buy it. That's a very good deal. As others have said, it has all of the upgrades: frame, tires, swingers etc. It's a no briner. Don't let a recall scare you. I have a 2009 King and the thing is AWESOME. Great looking and performing bike without a goofy fairing. As long as it's maintained well, Buy it and don't look back. no brainer.

One other thing to consider since you are living in FL. Before '09, the exhaust crossover for the left muffler was located above the tranny, under the seat. Would get very hot on your legs in stop and go traffic.
Starting in '09, I believe, the crossover was moved to under the frame.
If the pre 09 Road Kings have aftermarket exhaust systems, this probably wouldn't be an issue, but if they're still stock, you could expect to pay an extra 1K, easy, to get a system that moves that hot pipe.
Riding thru Custer State Park on a 100+ degree day in stop/go traffic on my 08 Road Glide was a miserable experience I won't soon forget.

Thanks for the help everyone! I ended up with the '09, I think I got a good deal. Not a single bit of rust anywhere and seems well taken care of. They did the ABS recall earlier this year so all should be good with that too.

Road it 300 miles back home and only had what I think is a front tire that needs some attention since I was getting some bumpiness at 70-77mph. Engine ran great though.

Forgot to mention it was a Road King Classic, so cruise control was standard. That is a HUGE game changer for me, I was able to rest my shoulder and had no soreness after 3 hours, which was a big reason I was looking for something better for trips than my Dyna.

I wish I knew how to find neutral though. On the Street Bob I can find it every time with no problem, on the Road King I look like a dope trying to find the sweet spot...

Some current options in the running:

1999 Road King Police - asking $3500. Its overall pretty ugly, chrome on the rockers corroded, 30k miles
2009 Road King - asking $6k. looks nice and seems to have a rider who cares about it and has lots of extras included, but high miles at 60k
2005 Road King Police - asking $5.5k. 45k miles, owner seems to be a bit of a jerk and doesn’t want to tell me much about it
2005 Road King Police - asking $6k. 27k miles. Bike looks nice but doesn’t have cruise control conversion which I’d have to add.
2007 Road King - asking $7.5k. 8k Miles, owners are nice and older, looks garage kept but not crazy about the color, it’s like a dark olive green

Not in a huge hurry as it will be a second bike, looking for a real good deal to come around but I’m not 100% sure what that’d end up being.
where is that 07 RK?

Road King is solid choice. On a side note Harley has never gotten their ABS bulletproofed till they do you may want to rethink it as a must have, the moco's system has some bugs that get expensive when they go bad. Several in here have had the brain box go out while having the dealers do the required fluid flush and the moco does not cover the replacement costs. $$$.......

What ever you look at check the history before dropping the cash, with the number of flood bikes on the market right now I'd be damned leary.

Think you missed the post where I already bought it, but appreciate the advice. They did the recall work earlier this year and all has been good since. Showed me the service history on it to confirm.

congratulations on the ride that would have been my choice too. try changing the primary and tranny fluid. I think it helps with finding N I use redline with shock proof in primary and mobile 1 gear oil in the tranny. There are a ton of good choices and you can read for days on the subject. spectro , redline, mobile 1 , ………………………...
