The best touring shock length, in my humble opinion, is a 13” shock setup properly for your riding specifics, or the 14” Pro Action offered by forum sponsor DK Customs. These 2 lengths will offer the best ride quality, along with offering the most amount of shock travel.

If lowering the bike is absolutely needed due to being vertically or inseam challenged, the best option is replacing or reworking the seat.
it’s pure Vanity. I don’t want it to be slammed, but still want it to look cool. I can deal with a little bumpiness.

I have Legends front (1 turn) and rear A’s set to my weight on my 2013 RKC and not impressed. Much better than stock but not what I was hoping for. I have a 2017 Ultra Limited and that takes the road issues more smoothly and less harsh than RKC.

Do you have the standard or lowered monotubes?
How many clips?
If lowering kit, which springs did you use?

My 2014 SGS is standard with 12". Progressive Suspensions 944 is supposed to give you good ride and set you 1" lower than stock. I don't want to lower my ride so I'm trying to decide between Progressive's 444 series and the Pro Action set.............decisions decisions lol.

Is lowering a SG as easy as just getting a shorter shock?

yes, the 12 inch shocks are what is stock on the street glides. you will get a better ride with the 13s. but you can keep it lowered some and get a decent ride. i put a set of ohlins from howard on. unsprung, they were 12-1/8 inch, but with the sag set, they are actually shorter than the stock 12s. and they have an extra inch of suspension travel which gives you greater comfort. i didn't pay much more for them than that set of 'used' bitubos further up the page.
