On first glance, I like this response, but . . . maybe he wants to ride the same speed his friends want to ride. I was on a 96 c.i. Road King and although my friends didn't leave me behind or anything, I always felt like my bike was under a strain at those speeds -- not to mention what would happen when we headed up a mountain. Part of that could be that I am almost always 2-up with one of my daughters on group road trips, so my bike's doing a bit more work than theirs are, but mostly, their Victories and Gold Wings are faster.
I now have 124 inches of S&S power and I no longer worry about whether I'm keeping up or putting too much strain on the engine. I am, however, usually the one who needs to fuel up first.
