2003 Dyna Wideglide - Transmission case broke, replaced tranny, everything back together, starter noise when trying to start, pulled off outer primary cover to visualize, Jackshaft is getting stuck (not returning all the way) and yes the coupling is in correctly and the bearing seems ok. looks like an alignment problem, but there is no adjustment with clutch basket when installing? just put it on and torque to 80 lbs, any idea before I pull clutch hub and starter? Thank You very much for any insight as your time is greatly appreciated. Keith

I had a similar problem on an early Dyna. I machined about twenty thousands off the starter gear and all is well. I never could decide what happened. Original problem was belt replacement. I did not do the belt replacement but was able to repair the starter gear problem. Hope this helps.
I have a 01 fxdl.it gave me a problem , this one time.I removed the outer primary cover and found the bushing that the Jacks shaft rides in was scored pretty bad.its a brass bushing.I replaced it,put some oil on it and its been great ever since.also great advice to just snug the Jack shaft bolt then bend the tab.might want to get a new tab as it has a rubber seal on it.
