Has anyone seen a oil filter as this? The image on the left is an adapter that screws onto the engine case. The image in the middle is the oil filter cartage. The image on the right is the oil filter can that screws on to the filter adapter. This "thing" was on the 1995 Road King I recently purchased. After I managed to get the adapter off. i installed a stock spin on filter.
Someone will call by soon enough and tell us what brand it is, but it is an aftermarket device, as you probably guess. Oil and Harleys have a long association with quack theories and practice, plus products like that. It probably does a perfectly good job, but then so does the stock throw-away filter! I wouldn't be surprised if that claims benefits in cooling the oil, but the oiling system is perfectly fine for most if not all of us.
Can you substitute a roll of toilet paper for the filter element?
Back in the 1970's till who know when, JC Whitney had such a device in their catalog. They sold you the housing and you used a role of tp for the filter media. No idea how well it worked, and thankfully the internets didn't exist back then or the never ending arguments over Two Ply or Single ply, Charmin or Scott, etc..... would have gone on and on and on.................
