Slow initializing
I have a 2016 Ultra limited and it’s getting slow to initialize. Switch it to run and it will ask for the security pin then 10 to 15 seconds later the main screen appears. Any ideas what might be the cause?
First check your battery connections....then battery charge( might be low) if low.. check your charging system( it might not be charging the battery fully)....just to start...then you get into checking the ecm.....are you under warranty? have the dealer take a look at it....simple things first
i agree with the fob battery suggestion. if it's asking for you to input your pin when you switch your ignition on, then it isn't recognizing a fob nearby. make sure that when you change your battery, you put it in correctly, there have been a myriad of posts about the fob not working only to find that the poster put the battery in upside down.
I think it may be the fob battery, too. First thing in the morning my 2016 FLHTK has started doing that since it started getting colder (not that it gets THAT cold down here). If it warms up later in the day it doesn't seem to do it. If it stays cold, and I leave it sit for a while before restarting I have the same problem. So far it's only gone to the "enter security code" state once but it often takes a LONG time to initialize.
I've had the bike 2 1/2 years and haven't changed the batteries yet so I'm overdue. I told myself I'd change them every year but I failed.

i wouldn't say you've failed. i'd say you were being thrifty. why change out a perfectly good battery if not needed? i've had my bike for 6 years, i've changed the fob batteries once. i will use them until i start having to enter the override code to go anywhere, and then, when it's convenient, i'll stop somewhere and pick up a new battery. sure, batteries are cheap, but they are also horrible for the environment. if i can help a little, and save a couple bucks in the process, why not?
