The 6th gear light's logic is enabled through software? Speed vs. engine RPM. The sensor itself is an electromagnetic induction device, i.e., a conductor cutting across a magnetic field produces a voltage 'spike'. The time interval between the 'spikes' determines vehicle speed. What could possibly affect the amplitude or generation of the spike would be transmission lube viscosity or contamination. (metal, dirt, etc).
A slipping clutch would also definitely affect the 6th speed determination.
The cruise and speedometer logic work. However, you'd don't know the program criteria so saying one criteria fits all might be premature.
Removing the sensor and cleaning it would be a good first step. Replacing it would eliminate it as a problem.
No tried everything I could think of it works if you twist throttle other wise you could ride in sixth all day long no light I have FP3 the only thing I havent done is put stock tune back in and try but did retune with Vance and Hines canned tune then auto tune no difference its just annoying I like everything working
I replaced the tranny gears (third gear bad) & since then no sixth gear indication & cruise won’t work in sixth gear only. Cruise works in fifth gear & below. Called Harley & parts man told me the gears are all the same in a street glide & my Freewheeler. I installed a used set of gears from a street glide. I’m gonna play with my Vance & Hines FP3. I removed the speed sensor & nothing found. I don’t think it’s bad as the speedo works.
Same thing here as said earlier main drive bearing went out replaced with hd gear set hasnt been right since Speedo and cruise works fine I called v&h told them story they said to reflash map ride a couple of tanks of fuel than run auto tune did all that same problem try putting stock tune in thats the only thing I havent tried I know its a problem with the ecm
I agree with the ecm. I imagine a Harley dealer would have to get involved then because of the software. Meanwhile, I put the FP3 back on & it needed updated. Flashed ecm but haven’t had a chance to ride yet cuz of rain. Oh, I did clean the speed sensor plug. It was a little dirty near seal but pins looked good.
