Default Fork Leg Reflectors

I'm curious about something and need some input:

I just got my bike back from the dealer following a switch out for chrome lower forks. I'm just noticing this now, but the amber side reflectors are missing. I called the dealer to question and they told me the reflectors are not reinstalled. I have the reflectors on the OEM forks they gave me, but it seems odd that the chrome forks do not have reflectors. Isn't that a DOT safety issue?

Any and all input would be appreciated

Thanks!

Think it depends on what state your in. Amber reflector in the front and red in the rear. Does not have to be on the fork leg. As far as safety is concerned. It is better to have one than not, but I don't have reflectors on my bikes.

Harley sales parts. They are required in VA. State inspection requires them just like brake and headlights. Wire them off or heat gun. Then some quality double stick tape. Or get two new ones. Bet the parts man is not going to give them to you free.
They could possibly save your life. It is possible that a good lawyer could even get a person off even if it looked like they should be in the wrong for running in the side of you. That is what they are for if you were to break down I would think.

They were the first thing to come off the bike.

A lot of people don't like those reflectors, especially covering their new fork lowers.

Don't know what bike you put them on, but from the 00-13 HD install instructions ...

"For models with fork-mounted reflectors: Using a piece of dental floss (or similar material) in a back and forth motion, loosen the top and bottom of the reflector from the fork slider. Rotate the reflector from side to side until it can be removed. Save the reflector for later assembly. ..."

And,

"Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 108 requires motorcycles to be equipped with rear and side reflectors. Be sure rear and side reflectors are properly mounted. Poor visibility of rider to other motorists can result in death or serious injury. (00336b)"

Thanks for the info thus far .I'm on a 2014 Ultra Limited .I might just reinstall them myself as suggested, following the "rather safe than sorry" thought .

You should have posted here first that you wanted chrome lowers. Could have saved a bunch of money.

The dealer obviously did not read the instructions.

It is your decision, but I like my clean chrome forks … but I have an older Ultra with the reflectors on the fender tip rails.

If you prefer that look, you might check out the Air Wing fender rail for your bike (part # 59600022.)
The catalog shows reflectors with it, but doesn’t mention them.
The HD web site mentions them (under Features,) but doesn’t show them.

And the instructions do neither, so who knows?
But you might want to check it out as an option.
