08 FLHTCU with stage 1 intake and true dual exhaust. The local shop installed a "Tuning License" on my bike to replace a power commander that was malfunctioning and the bike has run fine since. When it was done the mechanic said he would dial it in as closely as he could but I really needed to get the $600 dyno tune done. Well as I said the bike has run fine. I'm doing some work this off season and upon removing the front exhaust I see the O2 sensor isn't connected, checked the rear and same thing. Is this engine not monitored by a computer for rich/lean, timing etc?
Anybody have any thoughts on this?
Thanks
Fred
I took my 02 sensors off of my 07 softail when I put the V&H Big Radius exhaust on. No computer or tune on it at all. Ran fine with a little decel pop. Put 70k miles on it in 6 years before I moved and sold it.
I have an 08 road king and had a pc5 on it. I took it to get dyno tuned because it ran like crap and I have zero patience. He used a direct link for a tuner so he took my power commander off and I asked about the o2 sensor optimizers that go on with power commander and he said to leave them on so thats what I did. He's been tuning for a long time time so I didn't even think to question him why but the bike runs great so that's good enough for me. My guess is so it doesn't mess with the new tune.
O2 sensors don't really do that much, they only slightly alter the tune under part throttle, closed loop conditions. If the bike runs to your liking,no need for any real concern, why not ask the guy who disconnected them?
I am still trying to figure what you thought was wrong with Harleys' setup. It can figure Stage1 and exhaust. Factory with crossover empties better then true duals. All they do it sound good.
If your fuel economy is acceptable to you, motor on. You have lost a little leaning, something many find desirable and pay big bucks for. No check engine light? Have you looked at your plugs and exhaust tips for carbon soot deposits?
If they are using a Tune License this means they will be tuning the ECM directly via software. This gives them the ability to control closed loop so you would typically re-install the O2 sensors and use them to your benefit.
