Easy to do with some patience and well worth it if you plan on carrying stuff. Later model tour paks have dimples on the underside of the lid where you would drill your holes. Mine did not. Measured about 4 times and let it sit for a few hours. Went back and measured one last time and I found one of my markings to be 1/8 off. Corrected it and drilled away. One of my better mods.

Biggest downside is it gives the wife more room to carry needless crap. Having said that once my RK was transformed to a quasi EG Classic (fairing, tour pak wiith rack and Ultra Seat) my wife bought a hemi Challenger and no longer rides on the back of my bike SMH

Love mine, but leave it off unless both of us are going on a trip. Got these from Lowe's. First set I hit with some fingernail polish, had my painter hit another set when I was getting some work done. The covers aren't 100% waterproof, but hardly let any by. I think it looks better without, but love the functionality of the rack

That's a bit less of a factor for those of us with a lot more experience than you. . . at mealtime.

If u do long hauls not having a luggage rack needlessly restricts your storage capacity? A soft-duffle will Velcro to it. Ideal for storing rain kit.

If u install it yourself be extremely careful re: hole location and rack positioning.
