When to replace Clutch Cable

Main reason we replace them is due to the seal inside failing and letting trans fluid leak. If yours isn't leaking, it's still good and all you'd need is an easy pull kit. They came standard in 2007 or 2008 IIRC.

My original clutch cable is still on my 2003 RKC. 27,000 miles approx. I have always kept it lubed and adjusted accordingly and feel no binding what so ever with no fraying at the handle. The Road Kings of that year tended to have a harder pull than others so I'm wondering when should it be replaced. I'm not above doing it although im not looking forward to it but if I should I will. Do they deteriorate over time?

I lost the ends on a couple clutch cables in my younger days so I got into the habit of changing mine every 3 or 4 years, cheap peace of mind to me. Still have a spare for the shovel hanging on the wall.
