It’s true that removing the rocker box cover and rocker plate is more work than using pushrods that can be adjusted with the tubes in place for just a cam change. My point is that it can be done.
I've always gone through the rocker box for pushrods. If I can't use the OEM pushrods, I'll measure with a pushrod measuring tool, and then order the custom size from Smith brothers... What can I say, I like one-piece pushrods... and it really doesn't take that much more time...
While I have the rocker cover off, I upgrade the umbrella valves (on older twin cams) and do the rocker arm mod for increased oil return to the sump..
I am using SE adjustable push rods and went with aftermarket covers because the push rod instructions called for different covers. I could not find any chrome MoCo ones so I went with Colony, I think.
